Car Parks

Only a century after its invention, the personal motor vehicle has become the most popular form of transport, not just in developed countries but increasingly in developing nations.  Cities are remodelled to cope with increasing vehicle movements and many of the world’s major population centres are becoming impossible to navigate on foot.

Houses and apartment buildings are constructed with the car in mind, incorporating garages, carports and underground parking areas into their design.  Throughout cities multi-storey parking areas are built to allow workers to drive to work rather than take public transport.

The amount of otherwise useful land that is under concrete and bitumen parking stations is staggering—especially when it is realised that for most of the time these areas are practically empty.
